Admission Process

Make sure that your age is above 18 years when you apply for a degree program. Also, you need to have a minimum academic score of 60 percent or higher in class XII for each of your subjects.

Admission Requirements to Study in Ireland’s Universities

Ireland offers a plethora of graduate and undergraduate courses for students aspiring to study abroad. The application process might vary for each program as per university and college however; the prerequisites usually remain the same.

While applying to universities in Ireland it is recommended to consider both the language requisites and the entry level requisites.

Language Requisites

Most of the courses in Ireland are offered in the English language therefore it becomes necessary that students applying to Universities in Ireland must pass any of the English language proficiency tests and must fulfill its minimum score requirement as stated below:

  • IELTS: 6.0
  • TOEFL iBT: 90
  • PTE: 36 (UG), 63 (PG)
  • Cambridge ESOL: C1 or C2

It is to be noted that if a student has completed English GCSE or GCE examinations throughout their school years, then some universities in Ireland might waive the language competence test requirement.

Other Aptitude Tests

  • Students planning to study medicine or other healthcare courses must take the Health Professions Admission Test (HPAT) & Graduate Medical School Admission Test (GAMSAT).
  • A GMAT score is also required to obtain an MBA from an Irish educational institution.

Visa Process and Requirements

A student coming from a country other than the EU or EEA is supposed to apply for an Irish Student Visa. There are two types of visas available in Ireland one is a C-type study visa and another is a D-type study visa. However, the type of visa you will be eligible for totally depends on the duration of your study abroad program.

C-type study visa

The duration of the study program is the one that lasts less than 3 months which is 90 days duration.

D-type study visa

The duration of the study abroad program is the one that lasts longer than 3 months. If you are planning to stay longer than 3 months and you are non-EU/EEA students you have to register with the Garda National Immigration Bureau as it can allow you to stay more than 90 days in Ireland.

For study programs that last longer than 3 months. To stay longer than 3 months, non-EU/EEA students also have to register with the Garda National Immigration Bureau, which can grant permission to stay in Ireland beyond the initial 90 days.

Documents

Here is a list of documents required to be submitted along with your signed and dated summary application form. If there is any other corresponding fee is applicable it has to be sent with this application.

  1. 2 recent passport-sized photos
  2. Current passport, and previous passports
  3. Acceptance letter from a renowned university.
  4. A signed letter of application, having your complete contact details.

Other details included are as below:

  • Stating your reasons for planning to study in Ireland
  • Details of family members currently living in Ireland or another EU Member State,
  • A document stating that you will follow the terms of your visa you will accept all visa terms and conditions and will leave when your permission to stay expires.
  • Stating that the course you are planning to study does not naturally follow or relate to your educational/employment history
  1. Proof of payment to the college (fee receipts)
  2. Scorecard for IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, and other English proficiency tests
  3. Evidence of funds (€7,000) that are required to cover your living needs during the completion of your course. This includes a bank statement for the six months before your visa application. You must also provide official proof that you are the recipient of a scholarship (If applicable).
  4. You must also submit proof of your accommodation in Ireland and give details of the address where you will be staying once you arrive.

You can apply for an Irish student visa three months before your travel date from your home country. Following the completion and submission of the application form and supporting documents, the next step is to supply your Biometrics information. This information refers to information about your distinguishing physical characteristics. If you apply for an Irish student visa, it will be accepted within 4 to 8 weeks after the day your application is registered with the Visa Office or Embassy.

Ireland’s Permanent Residence permit

To apply for permanent residency in Ireland after their student visa, they need to fulfil the following eligibility criteria:

  • 5-Year Stay: Non-EU students should have stayed in Ireland for a minimum of 5 years, including their education and employment stays.
  • Work Permit: They should have a valid work permit or Stamp 1 or Stamp 4 to work in Ireland.
  • Irish Residence Permit: They should have a valid Irish Residence Permit when they apply for the PR.
  • Employment Status: They should have stable, long-term employment.
  • Good Behaviour & Conduct: As residents in Ireland, their behaviour should be friendly and of good character.

To apply for PR in Ireland after studying, students need to submit the following documents:

  • All copies of work permits
  • A copy of their GNIB card or Irish Residence Permit
  • A coloured copy of their passport, including stamps and personal details (if they have a new passport, they should submit their previous passport along with the other documents)
